What are we cooking up this fall? Textile Arts!

Our fall/winter classes are right around the corner and we have many new projects cooking up for our students! From our new early childhood programs to an expansion of our library programs, the Creativity Shell is fulfilling our mission to educate and inspire earth’s most precious resources…our kids!

For the 2016-2017 school year, we plan to include a strong emphasis on textile arts in a majority of our programs. Research has shown that exercises with fabric material improve visual, auditory and kinesthetic perception, develop a sense of space and rhythm for children. Furthermore, textile arts and fabrics create a special space in which children get new experience, develop the art abilities, imagination and associative thinking (Lavrenteva, I, 2014).

Some of our textile arts classes will include fabric dyeing. The fabric dyeing class teaches students about natural and synthetic textiles. Students will learn various aspects of textile arts such as batik dyeing, natural dyes, ombré dyeing, screen-printing and more. At the end of this class, students will be able to manipulate the colors and patterns in fabrics. They will also learn about the various types of dyes that are necessary to dye different types of fibers.

To further complement our fabric dyeing classes, the Creativity Shell will also introduce basic screen-printing and fabric painting projects to our students. Registration for Creativity Shell classes will begin soon. Please join our mailing list for up to the minute information about class registration.
