The Creativity Shell will be launching a new Creativity Caters/Cooking Program for youths in the juvenile justice system, foster care as well as youths on the autism spectrum. Creativity Caters will teach cooking/catering skills to youths and will also employ them for food preparation/catering services to outside businesses, individuals and organizations that partner with the Creativity Shell.
The Creativity Shell is a Houston nonprofit organization on a mission to use creative trades to educate and inspire the next generation of makers. The organization teaches sewing/textile arts and other trades classes to students in public libraries, schools and shelters that rescue children from homelessness and human trafficking. Their programs are designed to educate and inspire children by teaching them essential life and practical skills.
Chef Jay from the Creativity Shell will be teaching the Creativity Caters program. With a love of cooking learned from his grandmother at the age of 5, Chef Jay was deeply disappointed when he entered high school and the culinary arts program at the school was no longer available. Determined to follow through with his love of cooking, Chef Jay enrolled in the Crescent City School of Culinary Arts in New Orleans and graduated with a degree in International Cuisines. Since graduation, Chef Jay has trained with chefs throughout the Houston and Louisiana area. His inner love of southern foods blended with a mix of international delights makes him a perfect chef to teach children about food origins and their connection to the world around them. Chef Jay is extremely passionate about passing on his love and cooking/catering skills to the next generation and is even more excited about creating job opportunities for youths who are in need.
