In their continuing effort to find creative ways to educate and inspire the next generation, the Creativity Shell is introducing a life skills badge that will be given to students once they complete a special Life Skills Camp this summer.
The Creativity Shell is a nonprofit organization on a mission to use creative trades to educate and inspire the next generation of makers. Our organization teaches sewing/textile arts and other trades classes to students in our private studios, libraries, schools and shelters that rescue children from homelessness, trauma and human trafficking. Our classes are designed to educate and inspire children by teaching them essential life and practical skills.
At the beginning of Life Skills Camp, students will receive a fictitious bank account. During the course of the week, students will learn to sew, cook and create their own recipe book. Students will also learn to use simple tools such as hammers, nails, staple guns and drills. Each activity students are enrolled in will have a cost associated with it as well as a cost for the materials and supplies that are used for different projects. At the end of the week, students will use the costs of the items they have made and will learn to balance their bank accounts and checkbooks.
Students earning the Life Skills Badge can use it on their resumes or as a personal right of passage. The Life Skills Badge can also be earned as a fun or merit badge for Girl and Boy Scouts.
