Sew a Little Love Quilt Project for Humble ISD Seniors!

Creativity Shell Dedicates Special Section of Sew a Little Love Quilt Project to Humble ISD Seniors.

The Creativity Shell is launching a series of community quilt projects called Sew a Little Love and they are dedicating a special section of the project to Humble ISD Seniors.

The Creativity Shell is a nonprofit organization on a mission to use creative trades to educate and inspire the next generation of makers.  Our organization teaches sewing/textile arts and other trades classes to students in our private studios, libraries, schools and shelters that rescue children from homelessness, trauma and human trafficking. Our classes are designed to educate and inspire children by teaching them essential life and practical skills.

The Sew a Little Love project is a nationwide project consisting of quilt blocks with fabric replicas of hands. Participants will trace their hand out of fabric and will sew the hand traced fabric on to another piece of fabric. When participants register to participate in the project, they will also be given the opportunity to leave a comment on their registration page which will then be transferred to a special QR code to be read once quilts are completed.

Due to the closure of schools during the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization thought it would be a great idea to capture some memories for graduating seniors for people to read about for many years to come.

The special section of these quilts that will be dedicated to Humble ISD seniors is the Friendship Quilt. The Friendship Quilt is used to display friendship.  This quilt can be hung in locations such as schools, hospitals, businesses, airports or any other location that wants to harness the power of friendship.  By being a part of the Friendship Quilt, you are using your hands to show friendship to those in need. This quilt can also be hung in the school of the participating school if the school requests it.

To sign your child up for a quilt, please choose the school they attend from the list below.  Each quilt can only have a total of 48 students and if more quilts are needed to accommodate requests, the organization will try to make more room.

Friendship Quilt #1: Kingwood Park High School
Friendship Quilt #2: Kingwood High School
Friendship Quilt #3: Humble High School
Friendship Quilt #4: Atascocita High School
Friendship Quilt #5: Summer Creek High School
Friendship Quilt# 6: Quest

Once a student is registered for the quilt, they will receive a kit in the mail which they can complete at home with a sewing machine or hand sewing needle.

How do I participate?

  1. Choose which quilt you want to be a part of.
  2. Register for that quilt. Each quilt requires a donation of $12 or more to help cover the costs of fabric, supplies and production.
  3. When registering, add your message in the comments section so it can be added to the special QR Code for your quilt block.
  4. In a few days, you will receive a Quilt Block Kit in the mail.
  5. Follow the instructions to complete your hand block:
    1. Trace your hand on fabric #1 and cut out the hand shape with scissors.
    2. Sew the hand from fabric #1 on to the quilt block from fabric #2.
    3. Add the heart to the hand on fabric #1 and fabric #2.
    4. Mail/Return back to the Creativity Shell.

In total, the Creativity Shell plans to make 100 of these community quilts (6 of the quilts will be dedicated to Humble ISD Seniors). Once the quilts are completed, they will be hung in libraries, schools, churches, airports or other government and private buildings nationwide.  Anyone with a smartphone will be able to scan the QR code on each quilt block to see the message left by the participant of each quilt block.
