City of Houston issues Creativity Shell Proclamation declaring June 21, 2018 as Stomp Out Human Trafficking Day!
The Creativity Shell has received a proclamation from the Mayor of Houston declaring Thursday, June 21, 2018 (and every summer solstice hereafter) as Stomp Out Human Trafficking Day!
The Creativity Shell is a nonprofit organization on a mission to use creative trades to educate and inspire the next generation of makers. The organization teaches sewing/textile arts and other trades classes to students in public libraries, schools and shelters that rescue children from homelessness and human trafficking. Their classes are designed to educate and inspire children by teaching them essential life and practical skills.
Since their incorporation in 2015, the Creativity Shell has been actively involved in using creative trades to help homeless and human trafficking children in Houston. The organization travels to different shelters across the city and teach classes to victims as a form of art therapy as well as to give victims a skill they can use for gainful employment. Most recently, the Creativity Shell was recognized by the US House of Representatives for their Hearts for a Fresh Start Campaign where children sewed hearts on to wash cloths for homeless and human trafficking victims.
On Stomp Out Human Trafficking Day, residents across Kingwood and the rest of the City of Houston are being asked to display their “Stomp out Human Trafficking” signs on their front lawn and/or place a light in their window as a reminder to human traffickers they are NOT welcome in our neighborhoods.
To launch Stomp Out Human Trafficking Day, please join us at 3PM on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Creativity Shell studio in Kingwood. We are asking members of the community to come together as a sign of solidarity that we are all in this fight against human trafficking together.
