The Creativity Shell is a 501 (c)(3) organization on a mission to use creative trades to educate and inspire the next generation of makers. The organization teaches sewing/ textile arts and other home economics classes to students in public libraries, schools and shelters that rescue children from homelessness and human trafficking. Their classes are designed to educate and inspire children by teaching them essential life and practical skills.
Similar to the Kingwood maker-space, the new Creativity Shell/Museum District maker-space will be a child friendly environment where students can learn practical disciplines such as sewing, textile arts, costume design, cooking, industrial design, crafting and more.
Unlike the kingwood makerspace however, the Creativity Shell/Museum District will not be in a commercial plaza but a more private, homey environment.
“On some special days of the week, we plan to use the makerspace to offer private creativity classes for children on the autism spectrum as well as children rescued from sex trafficking, trauma and abuse. Our new studio will provide more privacy as well as a quieter environment for students as they create.” Says Shelancia Daniel, communications director of the Creativity Shell.
“We are also excited about being closer to students inside the loop that do not have access to our classes as well as offering our popular homeschool education classes during the school year to our homeschool families who have also been unable to travel to Kingwood for classes.” Daniel added.
The new Creativity Shell studio at 1629 Bonnie Brae Street, Houston, TX 77006 will be open June 1, 2019 just in time for summer camps. https://www.creativityshell.org/events/registration-summer-camps-2019-open/
Summer camps will be available from 10AM – 2PM and will be available for children ages 5+. Space is limited to please register early if you would like your child to be one of the first children creating in the Creativity Shell/Museum District.
Funds raised from all Creativity Shell makerspaces are used to offer public classes to children in low income schools, public libraries and shelters that rescue children from homelessness and human trafficking.
